2. TOPIC: Privacy and Personal Information *

Find one resource that talks about privacy and computers that you think is particularly interesting. This resource can be an article, blog post, diagram, chart, video, podcast, or an infographic. Write a brief summary of the key point and a "critical thinking" question about the social issues discussed. What is the impact on society? Why is this important? Be sure your question will encourage discussion on why this is important. Post the web address of the Privacy resource you selected, a sentence that prompted your question, and your question to discussion topic Privacy and Personal Information. Participate in at least 2 other discussions by responding to the questions. Facilitate your discussion by responding to the replies to your original post.

I found an interesting article titled "Top 10 cybersecurity breaches in history " https://www.topicks-10.com/top-10-cybersecurity-breaches-in-history?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=0925_top10_8+%232&utm_term=privacy+breaches&utm_content=Top+10+cybersecurity+breaches+in+history

Links to an external site.I found an interesting article titled "Top 10 Cybersecurity Breaches in History", which brought up serious concerns about personal information and privacy. In today's digital world, data privacy and security have become major concerns due to the increasing collection of personal data, which raises risks like identity theft, fraud, corporate espionage, and surveillance. The article caught my attention because data breaches have a serious impact on personal information and privacy, leading to issues like identity theft, targeted advertising, and unwarranted surveillance, and raising important social and ethical questions about consent and data ownership.

What should be the balance between convenience in using digital platforms and ensuring privacy, and how can individuals be more aware of how their data is being used in the digital world?

Privacy will die to deliver us the thinking and knowing computerLinks to an external site.

Summary: This article discusses the potential loss of privacy as AI technology advances, particularly with the rise of generative AI and wearables like the Humane AI pin and Rewind pendant. It argues that AI's hunger for data and its integration into physical devices could force society to reconsider the concept of privacy as we know it today. Although companies may attempt to implement privacy safeguards, the demand for vast data collection to fuel AI may eventually require a significant "forfeiture" of personal data.

Critical Thinking Question:
How do we balance the benefits of AI advancements and personalization with the need to protect individual privacy, especially as AI systems increasingly rely on massive data collection from both digital and physical sources?

In this podcast, Edward Snowden discusses the significance of online privacy and the implications of surveillance on individual freedoms and society. He argues that when people feel they are constantly watched, they avoid expressing themselves, leading to a chilling effect on free speech and expression.

How can societies create a balance between security interests and the protection of individual privacy rights?

Data Privacy and Consent | Fred Cate | TedxIndianaUniversityLinks to an external site.

Summary: In his 14 minute TedTalk, Fred Cate goes over the pros and cons of consent when dealing with Data Privacy. He argues that while consent is a major requirement, in today's society it doesn't really hold much value. Data companies are forcing you to consent with an illusionary choice, such as apple requiring you to consent to their privacy notices before being able to update your iPhone. A way to combat the unfair use of an individual's private information is to shift back the liability of the user to the Data processors.

Why is it that we are held liable for data leaks and frauds, rather than the companies that had the leak?

The training application meets educational needs and provides a user-friendly experience for a student/learner. As a website evaluator, the site’s design and structure enhance its usability and overall effectiveness in delivering educational content.

As a student seeking additional assistance in exam strategy, I am happy to try this website. After entering, I was immediately prompted to register for a "free" subscription. However, this process is quite strange as it requires me to add the free pass to my shopping cart and provide personal information before I can access any content. This feels unnecessary and sends me a warning signal.
When I browsed the subscription page, I found that the website's design was outdated and difficult to navigate. Clicking on the school logo will only refresh the page, and many links will cause a black screen. I have no confidence in the legitimacy of this website, so I have decided not to continue. It looks poorly made and may not be trustworthy.

Broken link. Leads to a website that is no longer available, with a curious banner at the top that shows a cart and balance. Do I have to purchase something to utilize the test service? Home page immediately offers a register to win sweepstakes, with no purchase necessary - at which point I closed the website, I've seen enough.

I quickly closed the site as I pressed the link that led to the test practice. The site requires you to purchase a "free" subscription to use it, which I find odd. For something that is free, you should be able to access their webpage.

"WebDev"

The site is extremely dysfunctional. Most functions do not work. For instance, pressing the DeAnza logo button leads you to a black screen with the school name in the middle. Secondly, the format and structure of the webpage seem lackluster, boring, and outdated.

This site provides training and skills for test taking but I found it to be hard to use because it didn't seem like it was what it was. Feels outdated and possible fake. Why do you have to add a pass to the cart that is free? Just to give personal information? I did not provide my information. I stopped right there and felt that I have spent enough time with this site.

"Website Evaluator"

The site feels old and maybe made by a first timer. It's not easy to navigate, some things do not make since, one thing leads to another that does not lead to anything. Wanting personal information right off the bat seems sketchy and without reason and what they plan to do with your personal information. Instant reaction to this site is that it is not credible nor trustworthy.

Student Perspective:
While the site provides training for test-taking skills, the outdated user interface raises concerns about usability and credibility. I was interested in trying the free pass, but the focus on paid services and the overall look made me hesitate, especially since I was worried about providing personal information like my email or address.

Website Evaluation:
The interface feels old school and not user-friendly, making it difficult to find free resources easily. It leans heavily on promoting paid services, and the lack of modern design elements can make it appear less trustworthy. Improving navigation and transparency around data use would enhance both usability and trust. The website also needs better accessibility features for those with disabilities, like screen reader support and adjustable text sizes.
