5. TOPIC: Accessibility Simulations

Accessibility - Dyslexia simulation - Try out this constantly changing dyslexia simulation, which you can read more about at Reddit, Website Aims to Simulate What It’s Like to Be Dyslexic. Or try one of the other simulations. Does the simulation give you a better understanding of the problems faced by computer users with these disabilities?

Then post a description of your experience in 2-3 sentences in the Accessibility Simulations discussion. Review the simulations and comments of 2 other students.

The submissions for this assignment are posts in the assignment's discussion. Below are the discussion posts for Phyu Phyu Thant, or you can view the full discussion.

I tried to read the dyslexia simulation. The moving text made it hard to concentrate, and it took me a while to spell the words. This experience helped me understand the challenges people with dyslexia .I can feel it, how the difficult it can be for people with dyslexia to read and stay focused on text.

Hi Xianzheng,

I agree with your insights on the dyslexia simulation. Experiencing the constant movement of letters and words is truly eye-opening for me as well. It emphasizes just how challenging and overwhelming reading can be for someone with dyslexia. This simulation reminds me that small design changes can help to improve someone's daily experiences.

Hi James ,

I completely agree with you! The simulation really shows how hard it must be for people with dyslexia to read, especially with important or complex information. Your comparison to wearing the wrong glasses is a great way to explain the strain it causes. It makes me realize that how important accessible design and how much extra effort people with dyslexia put into daily tasks.
