Interesting topics follow-up- week 6

  1. Interesting topics follow-up. In Module 2 Interesting topics discussion, you described a topic that interested you. For this activity, research that topic and prepare a brief review of 2-3 resources that added to your knowledge about this topic of interest. Post the links and your review to Interesting topics follow-up discussion. Review and comment on 2 other topics.

In Module 2, I learned something new from the discussion by Xian Zheng. His article made me think about the challenges we face as AI becomes more powerful and more connected to our daily lives.

(1) AI can improve our experiences by personalizing information and making smart devices more helpful, but it needs a lot of personal data to work well.

(2) Additionally, I have learned the new things that AI now collects data not only from the internet but also from our surroundings. This makes me worry about how much privacy we might lose.

 (3) Even if companies try to protect privacy, the large amount of data that AI needs that still mean sharing a lot of personal information.

I learned from the discussion and realized that we need to find a balance between the benefits of AI and the need to keep our private lives safe. As AI continues to grow, society will have to set limits to make sure privacy isn’t completely lost.

In module 2 I learned something new from the discussion by Michael Wuerflein. I have learned from his articleabout the urgent need for stronger cybersecurity in our digital world. As technology grows and we have more ways to access and share information, we’re also facing more cyber-attacks and risks like identity theft. This has made protecting people’s privacy and security more important than ever.

(1)  The discussion I concerned about the critical point ,when will the government step in to provide basic digital protection for everyone?

(2) With ongoing threats from foreign attackers and others, it seems clear that action is needed to keep people safe. This made me think about how cybersecurity should be a shared responsibility, involving both technology developers and governments, to protect our everyday lives in a digital age.

In today's digital world, data privacy and security have become major concerns due to the increasing collection of personal data, which raises risks like identity theft, fraud, corporate espionage, and surveillance. The article caught my attention because data breaches have a serious impact on personal information and privacy, leading to issues like identity theft, targeted advertising, and unwarranted surveillance, and raising important social and ethical questions about consent and data ownership.

What should be the balance between convenience in using digital platforms and ensuring privacy, and how can individuals be more aware of how their data is being used in the digital world?

Hi Xian Zheng,

Your summary provides a thoughtful overview of the challenges posed by AI advancements to our privacy. Do you think stronger regulations, such as the right to opt-out or limit data collection, could be an effective way to safeguard privacy in the face of growing AI technologies?

In module 2 I learn a new thing learning from discussion the article made me think about the challenges we face as AI becomes more powerful and deeply connected to our lives. While AI can make our experiences better by personalizing information and helping us with smart devices, it needs a lot of personal data to work well. With new tools like generative AI, the Humane AI pin, and the Rewind pendant, AI now gathers data not just online but also from our everyday, physical surroundings. This brings up concerns about how much privacy we might lose. Even if companies try to protect privacy, the amount of data AI needs could still mean giving up a lot of personal information. This discussion helped me see how we need to find a balance between the advantages of AI and the importance of keeping our personal lives private. It’s clear that as AI keeps growing, society will need to decide on limits to make sure we don’t lose privacy completely.

This article from NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology) discusses how our society is experiencing one of the greatest information technology revolutions in history and how there are so many moving parts as it relates to how we access information. Technology is becoming more and more powerful and there are so many different outlets for individuals to utilize them as it relates to digital media. With the massive increase in information and the influx of cyber attacks, the importance of cyber security to protect people's rights is more important then ever.

With all the ongoing attacks and identity theft taking place, when will the government step up and provide basic access to digital protection for their citizens? It might seem outlandish, but it seems evermore apparent in needs to happen to protect us from foreign adversaries attempts to disrupt our lively-hoods.

Hi Michael,                 Most of the companies place liability on the users to minimize their own responsibility and avoid stricter data protection measures. I think shifting liability to companies would force them to take data security more seriously and could lead to improved protection of our personal information. Do you think it would significantly improve data security practices?

The discussion about AI and privacy brings up important questions about how our personal data will be managed as AI gets more advanced. I learned that while AI brings many advantages, like more personalized experiences and smart devices that understand us better, it also depends a lot on collecting data. With tools like generative AI, wearable tech, and devices like the Humane AI pin and Rewind pendant, AI is now entering our daily lives, gathering personal information in real time. This constant data collection could lead to a world where privacy, as we know it, becomes much less. Even though companies might try to add privacy protections, AI’s need for large amounts of data might mean we’ll have to give up more personal information. This discussion made me think about the fine line between the benefits of AI and keeping our privacy. As AI becomes more common in our lives, society will need to set clear limits to make sure privacy doesn’t disappear entirely.
